How to Unlock Your Blackberry

If you want to change the service provider on your Blackberry, then you may need cell phone unlocking. Unlocking your cell phone will save you a lot of money, though it is possible that you may have to pay some for unlocking it. You can unlock your Blackberry cell phone by trying out any one of these options.

Ask Your Operator

This is the easiest option. Call your operator and ask them for an unlock code, and they will give you one for absolutely free. But, of course, there has to be a catch, and there is. You need to have been with your service operator for a specified period of time before you qualify for an unlock code. If you subscribe to T mobile, then the time period is three months. For other operators, the time period is likely similar.

Download Software

Now, there are plenty of websites offering free software downloads for unlocking your Blackberry cell phone. You need to enter your IMEI number, as well as the model number, and the software churns out an unlock code. Then you need to enter your code, and your Blackberry will be unlocked.

Here is how you enter the unlock code for your mobile

-First go to Settings, and then to SIM Card. Select SIM card.

-Keep holding the Shift key, type MEPD (MEPPD for Vodafone)

After this step, five locking categories will be listed. Again, hold down the Shift key and type MEP2 (MEPP2 for Vodafone). Release the Shift key.

-You will be told to enter the Network MEP code. Enter the code. Hit Enter, and the cell phone should now be unlocked.

The process is similar for a T-Mobile Blackberry.

-Go to Tools, after which the Options screen is displayed.

-Select Settings, and then select the SIM card. The phone number and the SIM ID number should be displayed.

-Type MEPD and the SIM locking levels will be displayed. Enter mep2 and you will be prompted to enter the unlock code. (Enter “P” twice if you use Blackberry 7100t on both occasions)

-Enter the code for Network Unlocking.

-Restart the phone, and your cell phone is now unlocked.

This procedure should work on almost all blackberry phones.

Get Professional Help

If all this is too difficult for you, call in the professionals. You may have to send them your Blackberry, and they should unlock it and send it back to you in no time. They usually charge anything around $30 or so. They calculate the unlock code from your phone’s IMEI number, and then enter it into your cell phone for unlocking it. This is a much safer option, as chances of anything going wrong are few.

The Hardware Procedure

You can purchase a Blackberry hardware unlocking device, but this is an expensive option. All you have to do is plug the hardware, which should look like a clip or a box, into your blackberry and it erases the subsidy lock.

The little effort you expend while unlocking your cell phone will save you a lot of headache in the future.
